The Co-Ground Block Party in March was the scene of yet another great community get-together at Pace of Collingwood's build and display suite site. The charity initiative raised a grand total of $7,000 in just one night while neighbours and visitors enjoyed a great party and a side of coffee with a conscience...
The Block Party welcomed 440 guests throughout the course of the night as Co-Ground's crowd funded 'caravan,' once again, stole the local limelight. A multi-layered community event featured two local DJ's, sideshow entertainment, games and a raffle headed up by the legendary Barry Morgan. An open-air cinema screening of Co-Ground's recent work in Vanuatu showed exactly what a difference a small group can make to the lives of many. Serving up the gratitude and great coffee, the Block Party was an opportunity for Co-Ground to thank their partners and supporters while raising awareness of important global issues and their impact on small communities. The result, a grand total of $7,000 raised, goes towards the construction of a new library and new classroom for Sara Primary School on an island of Vanuatu.
Todd Nicholls from Co-Ground has been a driving force, alongside volunteers and partnering businesses of the social enterprise. "The Block Party was the best way possible for us to thank everyone for being part of our newest project. We've had some terrific support along the way starting with the 150 people who donated for the crowdfunding program that enabled us to build our mobile café! Companies like Five Senses and La Marzocco have donated the coffee, coffee machines and product and our tireless volunteers are always on call. Of course Pace who have provided a cost-free space for us to trial our caravan café have been invaluable in allowing us to get off the ground with the project. The extra interest in people wanting to book the mobile café for events has been promising so we are looking forward to a busy winter and the promise of being able to raise more funds when we take the caravan to more local projects."
As Co-Ground continues its work to increase education and livelihood projects in the Asia Pacific region, there's never been a better time to fuel up with a good brew for a good cause.
