There's always more to a Pace event than you'd expect and the Pace of Collingwood launch was no exception. It started with the blessing of the land ceremony, led by aboriginal artist Yarramunua, that captured the hearts of everyone attending. In the days leading up to and during the launch, contemporary Melbourne artists Ella and Vexta redefined our perception of street art by the live creation of ‘We Are All Pieces of Places' - a visual expression that explores the concept that we are the sum of our experiences. Vexta's abstract landscape morphs geometric shapes to form a mountain range providing a backdrop to ELLE's collage based central character, uniting women of different races, age and culture in one form. By her side fly two spirit birds, a Currawong and Magpie, native birds common to the Collingwood area.
As Co-Ground's pop-up café kept the crowd caffeinated with specialty coffees, the aromas alone were enough to lure the neighbours out to join the action. Our collaboration with Co-Ground helps raise funds and build awareness for the work they do to improve education in the Asia Pacific region.
The day finished on a high with excited new purchasers on board, funds raised for Co-Ground, and the sense that we had brought new life to a corner of Collingwood.
